Siete Family Profile: Andrés Figueroa -

Chef Andrés Figueroa, aka “Figs,” is one of Siete’s beloved culinary geniuses. Alongside our sister, Veronica, he’s helped pioneer some of our family’s favorites—the delicious and nostalgic foods that we love to share with you.

We’ve all heard the saying “if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” And even though Andrés knows how to turn up the heat and turn out an incredible meal, the kitchen environment he creates is a welcoming one—some might even say it’s the heart of our home, especially since one of the quickest ways to our heart is through food. Not only can he whip up a mean marinade, but anyone within earshot of the kitchen knows that he can also deliver a beautiful serenade (at the time of writing, he is belting out a wonderful rendition of “Silent Night.” Yes, it’s July, but we’re not complaining).

Just as he observed his grandfather cooking, seeing Andrés in the kitchen is a prime example of watching someone who loves what they do, and cooking that love into each meal he shares. His affinity for food is a sentiment that distinguishes his meals as some of the best meals we’ve ever had. We can truly taste the love.

“I always tell people that my end goal for cooking is to be able to cook like a Mexican grandma. It sounds funny, but I don't want to make refried beans that people say, ‘Wow, this is very interesting. These refried beans are so unique.’ That's not my goal. I want somebody to come up to me and say, ‘This reminds me of the beans my grandma made me when I was five years old. I don't get to eat those anymore.’ That’s everything to me.”

Mil gracias, Figs, for being an upstanding part of our familia—for keeping our bellies full of feel-good food, and our hearts full of nostalgia for our family’s favorite foods.
