Recipient Uno: La Eskinna

Award: $50,000

Location: Orlando, Florida

La Eskinna is a Mexican street food company owned by the Sotelo family trio. Their story began with Olga Sotelo's dream of one day owning a food truck where she could share her delicious Mexican dishes with others. Her daughter and her son, Fatima and Jose, came together to support her vision and make her dream come to life! Despite challenges and location obstacles, they've built a loyal customer base who consistently return for their delicious, authentic meals, and friendly service. Their tacos, birria, quesadillas, and entire menu keeps people coming back for more because they're reflective of the family's love for their culture and their dedication to Olga's dream! The Sotelos have the utmost faith in their family and their vision for the future of La Eskinna, which includes the desire to expand to a brick and mortar so more people can gather to enjoy their amazing dishes together.

Q: What is your company mission statement?:

A: Our mission is to reach every palate we can by creating dishes and mixing flavors that will take our guests to the roots of our culture and our gastronomy. We want to take a piece of Mexico everywhere we go, by keeping it authentic, simple and delicious. By doing this we seek to exceed our guests expectations.

Recipient Dos: Alta Baja Market 

Award: $30,000

Location: Santa Ana, California
   

Alta Baja Market is a cafe and market located in Santa Ana that celebrates the flavors and the cultivators of Mexican-American culture. Alta Baja is owned by Delilah Snell who honors her "alta-baja" culture,  or the culture indicative of the regions and her experiences “above and below” the US and Mexico border. With her strong sense of entrepreneurship, she has built this business thoughtfully for her community,  aspiring to bring new and exciting offerings—from delicious foods and home goods to unique events.  

   

Q: What is your company mission statement?:

A: A market, cafe and community space celebrating the flavors and makers of California, the American Southwest and Mexico.

Recipient Tres: Taqueria El Sol 

Award: $30,000

Location: Glendale, Arizona

Taqueria El Sol, owned by Erika Rodriguez Vazquez, is a taco truck and shop making and sharing delicious Mexican dishes made with their very own handmade corn tortillas. Fun fact: They were the first approved food truck in Glendale! They offer traditional tacos & quesadillas, plus tortas & burritos. They're beloved in their community and hungry to give even more people a taste of their food. They've even served food at the State Farm Stadium for the big game! We admire their love and commitment to their community, and we are excited to see their continued success as they grow their food truck and store-front business.

Recipient Cuatro: Los Angelitos Bakery

Award: $20,000

Location: Los Angeles, California

 

Los Angelitos Bakery is a family business that began 30 years ago with Deanna Ductoc's father and her grandfather. After her grandfather passed away, her father decided to give her  and her brother ownership of the bakery. Today, Los Angelitos Bakery serves traditionalpan dulce—also known as Mexican sweet bread—along with affordable pastries like cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. (They're the home of the "Kobe Concha!"). Deanna's dedication to supporting her family, team, and community inspires us, and we’re excited to see her fulfill her dreams for the  bakery and delicious pastries while ensuring that her family business lives on.

Q: What is your company mission statement?:
   
A: Our mission at Los Angelitos Bakery is to serve our community while bringing a taste of home from Mexico! Family is the backbone of our business, while our community and culture are at the heart! We strive to give back to our community in any way that we can, while we can.

Recipient Cinco: Pocha Los Angeles

Award: $20,000

Location: Los Angeles, California

Pocha Los Angeles is a restaurant that offers healthy, modern Mexican fare. They make traditional Mexican dishes while keeping up with the latest food trends, too! Like their Burritas, which are a modern take on a deconstructed burrito, and brisket tacos, they're innovative menu items are both delicious and creative. Pocha started as a part of owner Claire Risoli’s vision board back in 2019 and has since turned into a wonderful business in the heart of LA today! We’re inspired by her commitment to making her dreams come true, and we can't wait to see what else she has in store for Pocha.

Recipient Seis: La Vegana Mexicana

Award: $15,000

Location: Santa Ana, California

 

La Vegana Mexicana, owned by Loreta Ruiz, is a restaurant that specializes in traditional Mexican food with a vegan twist. What started as Ruiz  making Mexican meals using vegan ingredients for her daughter, eventually turned into La Vegana Mexicana. Her goal is to create cultural dishes that taste great using vegan ingredients so that more people can gather together at the table and enjoy foods of her Mexican heritage. We resonated with her and her family’s story of making lifestyle and dietary changes as part of their personal health journey, and we admire the way Ruiz was able to build an amazing restaurant from this experience.

Recipient Siete: La Cocina de Consuelo

Location: Austin, Texas

La Cocina de Consuelo is a cozy, family-owned and operated restaurant located in Austin, Texas. They make delicious Mexican dishes like enchiladas, breakfast burritos, and other home-style meals that taste delicious and remind people of their abuela's kitchen. In honor of her late aunt Connie (Consuelo), Leticia Garcia has taken over the reins of La Cocina de Consuelo and works every day to make sure that the food, menu, and atmosphere are authentic to her aunt's recipes and vision. Surrounded and staffed by family employees, this is truly a family venture that makes people feel like they are right at home!

Comadre Panadería makes and shares Mexican-American baked goods made with whole ingredients (and a whole lot of love!) right here in Austin, TX. Professional baker and pastry chef Mariela Camacho is the owner of Comadre and draws inspiration from her culture to share delicious baked goods with her community and beyond. She provides opportunities for people of all backgrounds to be able to enjoy her pastries to ensure that her community is nourished and welcomed. We love the ways that she stays connected with her community and commits to using responsibly grown and harvested ingredients in her baked goods.

Award: $10,000

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Borinken Cakes, owned by Rachel Diaz, specializes in crafting authentic Puerto Rican sweets, like bizcochitos: soaked Puerto Rican cakes with crunchy icing! We admire Diaz’s dedication to sharing a sweet part of her culture with others and their passion for bringing something new to the Chicago community. Using recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, Diaz and the team at Borinken Cakes put a lot of heart into their delicious creations. Our familia loves that Diaz is sharing a beloved and unique part of her culture and doing it in such a fun and creative way, too.
