Hola! We're so glad you're here, welcome to our familia! Just like any other familia, we have our own traditions, jokes, activities, and lingo, too. Like an encyclopedia filled with knowledge and information, this Siete-Pedia's got the the scoop, the 7-1-1, the lowdown—if you will—on all things Siete. We're sharing it with you because Juntos es Mejor.
(Psssst! This was our very first "Juntos es Mejor" wall at our old Siete HQ! It holds a special place in our hearts. <3)
First things first, “Siete” means “seven” in Spanish. The number seven is significant to us because there are seven members in the founding Garza family—the original siete that started Siete Family Foods!
If you’ve seen any of our branding, you’ve probably noticed the bird-like figure that is our logo. That bird is actually a heron, which translates to “Garza” in Spanish—a nod to the family behind Siete, the Garzas. You’ll also notice that our logo has seven feathers on each wing, as well as on the chest of the bird, which is also symbolic of the seven family members.
On their journey to health years ago, the Garzas realized that there were two parts to their wellness equation: food and movement. So, before there was Siete, there was G7 Athletics—a family-owned and operated gym that the Garzas ran in Laredo, Texas. This is where it all began, and—fun fact: this was the very first place that Veronica sold her Grain Free Almond Flour Tortillas. (Shout out to everyone at G7 who helped us believe we could and should share our foods with more people!)
Today, we still believe that movement is important to overall wellness. This is why we have a gym at our HQ that is open and available for our employees to use. Whether you need a quick walk on the treadmill to get out some energy or you’re looking to workout during lunch or after work, we’ve got you covered!
Siete is a family-owned business based in Austin, TX, but the Garza family is originally from Laredo, TX. We think of it this way: Siete was born in the Garza’s family kitchen in Laredo, but grew up in Austin, where we are today.
We’ll let you in on a beloved tradition that happens soon after being hired at Siete: our New Hire Tunnel! Shortly after a new member is hired, our entire familia gathers and forms a tunnel with our hands together at the front of our HQ. Then, the newest addition to our familia walks, grooves, dances, high-fives, salsas, and/or runs through to their favorite song while we cheer, clap, dance along, and welcome them to the team!
Siete Amigos is a program our familia created to foster connections between new hires and the broader Siete team from their very first day. We pair up each new hire with two existing team members to make them feel welcome, in-the-know, and included at our beautiful headquarters—because Juntos es Mejor. Amigos give an office tour, grab lunch, and check-in with their new hire regularly and basically serve as a helpful resource and a friendly face!
We believe that just about everything in life is better enjoyed together. This is why one of our values is Juntos es Mejor (“Together is Better”). Allow us to paint the picture with a list of things we believe are best done together: grabbing coffee/matcha, brainstorming, laughing, dancing, eating, cooking, planning, celebrating...the list goes on! Here’s our point: these things could be done anywhere, and “laughing” and “dancing” could just as likely be switched to “working,” “dreaming,” and more! The one constant? Doing things together—because we believe it’s a whole lot better.
At our HQ, you can be certain we’ll have snacks. You can also be certain we’ll have snacks for a variety of dietary needs and preferences. Aside from a whole lot of Siete products, you can also find a wall full of nuts, bars, fruit, crackers, jerky, and more. Plus, a fridge full of teas, sparkling waters, cottage cheese, eggs, sandwich essentials, condiments, pickles, and yogurt. We want everyone to have access to the fuel they need to get things done—together!
What are “Summer Fridays” at Siete, you may ask? Summer Fridays are one way we aim to nourish the whole self—combining work andplay—during the hot summer months. They are a chance to come together over food, games, and even a little bit of friendly competition! Summer Fridays come in three categories:
Event/Activity
Early Release Friday
Free Friday
Some of our past activities have been Trivia Day, Coffee Tastings, Top Golf, Self Care Spa Days, Scavenger Hunts, Volunteer Events, and Field Day, too.
Field Day is the epic grand finale to our Summer Fridays! It’s a full day of gathering together, cheering each other on, and engaging in some friendly competition with the entire Siete team. We’re divided into random teams, and we go through various rounds of competitions—like a relay race, salsa-making cook off, water balloon toss, bouncy house flip cup tourney (with water of course!), trivia showdown, the list goes on! At the end of the day, the Field Day champion team is announced, and we celebrate with paletas, ice cream, and other treats.
Honorable mention: Spirit Week
The entire week leading up to Field Day, or “Spirit Week,” serves as an opportunity for teams to pile up points—ahead of the competition. Each day is a themed dress up day such as Pajama Day, Animal Day, Siete Product Day, 90s Throwback Day, for example. The more team members who dress up, the more points your team gets!
Togetherness is our family’s way of life. It’s at the core of everything we’ve ever done, and everything we do. The Siete Juntos Fund, derived from our family’s motto,Juntos es Mejor, translates to the Siete “Together” Fund. We’re on a mission to create positive change in the communities that need it most, and—like all things—we want to do this together. We have committed 2 million dollars towards creating positive change through collaboration and inclusivity. Our goal is to build a more equitable and prosperous future for all by providing the necessary resources and support for underserved communities to thrive. Here’s a heartwarming video of our 2023 recipient receiving the good news of their selection for our fund:
With an office full of people, you’re bound to #twin with someone when it comes to your #OOTD. When this happens, we make sure to snap a photo and send it to our entire team. Twinning is winning! <3
The holiday season is our familia’s favorite time of year! Mainly because we love to gather together and enjoy delicious food (like buñuelos…drooling), but also because we love the traditions that come with the season. Like our annual Siete familia Mug Exchange! (It’s like Secret Santa but with mugs.) This way, we each have a mug we can cherish and use when drinking festive beverages like hot chocolate on chilly days. It’s also evolved to become a mug + book exchange, too. For those of us with a cabinet full of mugs from past mug exchanges (and for all our familia’s proud book worms!).
For generations, our family has gathered during the holidays and enjoyed buñuelos. They're one of our favorite traditions. We have many memories of our grandma and our great grandma rolling out fresh masa for tortillas, frying them up, and tossing 'em in cinnamon sugar. The sweet cinnamon-y aroma would fill the house, and all of the children of our family would run into the kitchen to beg for a taste while the buñuelos were stacked high by our grandmas. In the spirit of togetherness—and in honor of these beloved holiday memories—we created our very own Grain Free Mini Buñuelos Cinnamon Crisps with ingredients like cassava flour, coconut sugar, and avocado oil. These become available seasonally and we look forward to it all year!
Did you know we wrote a cookbook? It’s true! Throughout the years, our family has collected recipes that span every occasion and meal, like our Mom’s special Sunday breakfasts, neighborhood backyard asadas, and traditional holiday dishes. Eventually, we poured it ALL into the pages of our first family cookbook: THE SIETE TABLE! Check it out:
When the weather gets warmer, we celebrate “backyard asada season,” as we’ve come to call it. In our Siete culture, a backyard asada is just like a backyard barbecue. We soak in the summer sun and enjoy music, drinks, and conversation with loved ones amidst the aromas of delicious carne asada and proteins on the grill. It's our favorite way to gather and stems from the Garza family's go-to way of celebrating birthdays, holidays, and everyday get-togethers. We believe there's nothing like sitting outside with your loved ones, smelling the smoky aroma of a fire burning and proteins grilling, and indulging in refreshing beverages and chips & salsa galore!
Most Fridays, our brilliant and talented Culinary Team cooks up a delicious gluten free feast (with dairy free, vegan, and vegetarian options as well!) for our entire team to enjoy together! They make sure that there’s something for everyone at the table—inclusive of everyone’s dietary needs and preferences. From a Baked Potato Bar and Mexican Comfort Food, to Friday Brunch and a Pasta Bar, our culinary whizzes keep our bellies and our hearts so full. Get a glimpse into one of our Friday Lunches here.
P.S. We love our Friday Lunches so much that we now have an internal Tuesday Lunch, too!
“I don’t use measurements, just a little bit of this and a little bit of that!” This is what our Grandma Campos always used to say when it came to cooking her delicious meals and her beloved tortillas. We’ve carried this philosophy into our Siete kitchens today—always keeping her foods as the golden standard.
P.S. This is also the name of our Siete Family children’s book! This book explores what our family calls "the hyphen" and the “little bit of this and the little bit of that” that makes up our unique and special identities.
Every week during our MMM (Monday Morning Meeting), our team draws one lucky teammate’s name to play Wins, Wins, Wins!
Here’s how it works: each Friday, we submit kudos for members of our Siete team for achieving something special like: finishing a project, meeting a goal, random acts of kindness, landing a new account, running a marathon, providing helpful feedback, making a sweeeeet cup of coffee for another teammate, and more. The following Monday, a magical wheel is spun and a name is randomly selected from the submissions. This person then goes through a little “Pick a door” elimination challenge, and even if the wrong door is chosen, they still win a surPRIZE!
“¡Buen provecho!” means “Enjoy your meal!” You might see it on our packaging, or elsewhere on this website. Our family uses this phrase to invite you to enjoy and experience our delicious foods with family and friends, too.
Our familia loves soccer! You can find us at every Austin FC game sporting allllll the green clothes, hats, and socks that we could find in our closets and cheering our hearts out for the players on the field. What’s more? At the start of the 2024 MLS season, you can find Siete snacks throughout the stadium! ¡Estamos Listos!
In 2023, our familia officially partnered with the incredible 4ATX Foundation—the non-profit branch of Austin FC. We continue to work in partnership with them today, too! 4ATX works to make soccer more accessible, and they share our mission of positively impacting communities through education, entrepreneurship, and wellness. A portion of our 2023 Seasonal Grain Free Mini Buñuelos profits went to benefitting youth soccer through their program! You can read more about this and our partnership with 4ATX here.
Our familia loves sharing our foods with just about anyone we meet. When we bump into someone who might like to try Siete, someone who loves our Siete shirt, someone who just went gluten free, (basically anyone who might want some goodies!), it’s our pleasure to collect their address and send them a complimentary Siete care package. We call these delightful boxes “Juntos Sends,” which comes from one of our core values: Juntos es Mejor. This motto has encouraged us time and time again to connect with friends, neighbors, and friends-we-don’t-know yet every chance we get!
Found on Our Team page, underneath baby pictures, is an interactive list of two true and one false claim our teammates provided about themselves like:
“hates coffee,” “used to work on a maple syrup farm,” “wanted to name her younger brother Hercules,” “has a dog named Flapjack,” “pours milk on her ice cream like it's cereal,” “rode in an elevator with Matthew McConaughey,” “once auditioned for an acting role in the film Nacho Libre,” and “was an extra on HBO's Silicon Valley,”
All new members of our Siete familia get to participate in this fun tradition, too!
One of many playful, spontaneous polls we take. Honorable mentions to the following controversial questions:
Mashed potatoes—smooth or creamy?
Green bean casserole—yay or nay?
Sweet potatoes—Orange or purple?
Socks while sleeping—yes or no?
You get the gist. So…which is it—cilantro or cilant-no?
If you made it this far, that must mean you're ready for a pop quiz! Ready? Here we go...
Just kidding! But really, if you're looking to keep up with all things Siete—from new products and alerts to shenanigans and puns galore—follow us on social media @sietefoods or join our SMS list here. ¡Adios!
